FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our restoration process, pricing, and results.

What types of damage can you fix?

We can address a wide range of card issues including surface scratches, dirt and debris, minor creases, dents, and holo scratches. Our Deep Clean service handles deep cleaning, holo scratch removal and inspection, while our Full Restoration service adds dent and crease reduction, edge lift reduction, and deep scratch treatment.

Some defects such as severe creases through the card stock, ink loss, water damage staining, and major structural damage may have limited improvement potential. We always provide an honest assessment before beginning work.

What's the difference between Deep Clean and Full Restoration?

Deep Clean ($29.95) includes deep surface cleaning, holo scratch removal, debris removal, and a full inspection report.

Full Restoration (starts at $99.95) includes everything in Deep Clean plus dent & crease reduction, edge lift reduction, and deep scratch treatment. Pricing is tiered by card value. Ideal for high-value cards where maximizing grade potential matters.

Do you open graded slabs (PSA, BGS, CGC)?

Yes, we can crack open PSA, BGS, and CGC slabs for restoration. Many collectors send us graded cards that received lower grades than expected, hoping restoration can improve the score on regrading. Please note that cracking a slab voids the current grade, so this is a decision to consider carefully.

How long does the restoration process take?

Deep Clean typically takes 3-4 weeks from when we receive your cards. Full Restoration takes 5-7 weeks due to the more intensive work involved. High-Value Custom and Bulk timelines vary based on the scope of work. You can track progress through your customer dashboard at any time.

Do you guarantee specific grade improvements?

We do not guarantee specific grade outcomes, as grading is ultimately at the discretion of PSA, BGS, or CGC. However, most cards see a 0-2 grade improvement after restoration. We provide an honest assessment and realistic expectations before beginning any work so you can make an informed decision.

Cards with severe structural damage (PSA 3 or below) may see limited improvement since many defects at that level are permanent.

What are the risks of grading a restored card?

Submitting any restored card to a grading company carries inherent risk. PSA, BGS, and CGC each maintain their own evolving criteria for what they consider "altered," and those criteria are not always disclosed publicly. A card that we restore using accepted, non-additive techniques may still be flagged by a grader as "Evidence of Alteration" (e.g., PSA's N-codes), which results in the card being returned ungraded and can permanently reduce its market value.

Things to understand before you grade:

  • Restoration is a cosmetic improvement service. It does not guarantee a numerical grade or a passing crossover.
  • Different graders apply different standards. A card that fails at PSA may receive a numerical grade at CGC or BGS, and vice versa.
  • Grader criteria can change over time. Cards that previously graded numerically may be flagged on resubmission.
  • Once a card is flagged with an alteration code on a specific cert, that judgment cannot be reversed by that grader on that cert.

By choosing to submit a restored card for grading, you accept that the outcome is solely at the discretion of the grading company. Poke-Fix is not responsible for any grade, alteration designation, or change in market value that results from a third-party grader's evaluation. If you are unsure, we recommend choosing our Inspection service first to discuss the expected outcome before committing to restoration or grading.

How is pricing calculated?

Deep Clean starts at $29.95 per card. Full Restoration starts at $99.95 per card and is tiered by declared card value — cards under $100 are $99.95, $100-500 are $124.95, $500-1,000 are $199.95, and cards $1,000+ start at $299.95 plus 2.5% of value. All prices are shown upfront during submission.

How should I ship my cards to you?

After placing your order, you will receive our facility address and your unique order reference number. We recommend shipping with tracking and insurance via USPS Priority Mail, UPS, or FedEx. Each card should be placed in a penny sleeve and toploader, with cards secured to prevent movement during transit.

What happens after I submit my order?

After checkout, you'll receive shipping instructions and your order reference number. Ship your cards to our facility — once they arrive, our technicians begin work. You can track every step through your customer dashboard, and we provide before-and-after photos when complete.

How do I track my order?

After placing your order, you will receive login credentials to access your Customer Dashboard. From there you can view real-time status updates, check individual card progress, see before-and-after photos, and communicate directly with our team.

Do you offer bulk or volume discounts?

Yes. For submissions of 20 or more cards, we offer custom volume pricing through our Bulk Submission tier. Contact us for a personalized quote based on the number of cards, service level, and card values. Dealers and large collectors are welcome.

Where do you ship? Do you service international customers?

What We Fix

Pokemon Card Restoration Services

From minor surface wear to significant damage, our technicians bring your cards back to life.

Surface Scratch Removal

Light and moderate surface scratches are the most common defect on Pokemon cards. Our micro-polishing technique removes scratches without damaging the card's surface coating, improving both appearance and the PSA surface sub-grade.

Dent & Crease Reduction

Dents, dings, and minor creases can drop a card's grade by 2-3 points. Our restoration process reduces these defects to minimize their visual and structural impact.

Holo Scratch Treatment

Holographic Pokemon cards are especially prone to visible scratching. Our specialized treatment reduces scratch visibility and restores the clean, reflective finish collectors demand.

Card Cleaning & Debris Removal

Dirt, fingerprints, and debris accumulate over decades. Professional cleaning removes contaminants that affect both appearance and grading, especially on vintage Base Set, Jungle, and Fossil era cards.

PSA & BGS Grading Prep

Submitting to PSA, BGS, or CGC? Our grading prep service ensures your cards are in optimal condition before submission, maximizing your grading results and ROI.

Is Pokemon Card Restoration Considered Altering?

One of the most common questions in the hobby. Here's what you need to know.

What We Do (Accepted)

  • Remove surface dirt, oils, and contaminants
  • Polish out light surface scratches
  • Reduce visibility of dents and dings
  • Clean holo surfaces
  • Flatten minor warping and bends

What We Never Do (Alteration)

  • Repaint, recolor, or add ink
  • Trim or cut edges
  • Apply coatings or sealants
  • Fill in chips or missing card stock
  • Any process adding foreign material

Professional restoration that removes contaminants and addresses minor wear is widely accepted. PSA, BGS, and CGC evaluate each card as-is. We provide transparent, non-invasive restoration that respects the integrity of your cards.
